Get set up in under a minute. Mantle calibrates your starting rating from a quick questionnaire so your rank is accurate from day one.
1
Download Mantle
Grab the app from the App Store or Google Play and create an account with your email.
2
Pick your disciplines
Choose Bouldering, Sport Climbing, or both. Each discipline has its own independent rating track.
3
Set your starting level
Scroll to the hardest grade you've sent recently. This seeds your initial rating so you don't start from zero.
4
Choose your home gym
Search for your gym to set it as your default session location. You can skip this and set it later.
Your rank stays hidden until you complete your first session - then your placement rating locks in and your rank is revealed.
Logging a climb takes under five seconds. Everything else - ratings, insights, social features - is derived from that simple input.
1
Start a session
Tap the play button to the right of the navigation bar in the app. Pick your gym from favorites, search, or skip for an unspecified location.
2
Log your climbs
For each climb, pick the grade, ascent type (onsight, flash, send, attempt, etc.), and optionally set the wall style and feel (soft/normal/hard). Everything is on one screen.
3
End the session
Tap review climbs when you're done. Review your logged climbs, swipe to delete any mistakes, or tap to edit details.
4
Tag climbing partners
Search for other Mantle users you climbed with.
5
Verify your session
Choose from location verification (GPS), partner verification (notification to tagged partners), or a witness link anyone can use.
6
Share to feed
Add a note or photo and publish to your feed. Friends will see your session, rating change, and any achievements unlocked.
7
Rating updates
Your session is processed and within seconds, your updated rating and rank appear on the home screen.
Mantle uses a skill rating system adapted from other competitive platforms. Routes are treated as opponents, and your rating updates after every session based on what you climbed and how you climbed it.
1
How your rating changes
Sending harder routes pushes your rating up. Falling on easier routes pulls it down. The system accounts for ascent type (onsight vs. attempt), how the grade felt (soft/normal/hard), and diminishing returns for repeating the same grade.
2
Separate tracks
Bouldering and sport climbing have fully independent ratings and ranks. Progress in one doesn't affect the other.
3
Confidence
New accounts start with high uncertainty. As you log more sessions, the system becomes more confident and your rating stabilizes. Long breaks increase uncertainty again.
| Rank | Boulder | Ropes (Sport) |
|---|
| Prospect | VB – V1 | 5.5 – 5.7 |

| Crusher | V5 – V7 | 5.11a – 5.11d |
| Projector | V7 – V9 | 5.11d – 5.12c |
| Dirtbag | V9 – V11 | 5.12c – 5.13a |

Mantle replaces paper scorecards for gym competitions. Staff create comps, climbers join with a code, and results update in real time.
1
Create a competition
Gym staff use a 4-step wizard: set basics (name, discipline, scoring format), configure scoring rules, set the schedule and registration window, and define divisions with suggested grade ranges.
2
Choose a scoring format
Points format awards base points per problem with flash bonuses and attempt deductions. Zones & Tops (IFSC-style) ranks by tops, then zones, then fewest attempts.
3
Climbers join with a code
Each competition gets a unique 6-character join code. Climbers enter the code, preview the comp details, pick a division, and confirm registration.
4
Log climbs during the comp
Tap problems from the problem list to log sends, flashes, zones, and attempts. A live score bar and countdown timer keep you on track.
5
Watch the live leaderboard
Division-specific leaderboards update in real time. Top 3 finishers are highlighted with medal icons.
6
View results & share
After the competition ends, see your final rank, score breakdown, and full standings. Share your results to the feed.
